Discover the eco-friendly approach to combat beach erosion. The innovative PEM system naturally connects sand layers, improving water drainage. Waves sink in easier and deposit sand, reducing erosion. No energy or pumps are needed. The system promotes the growth of dunes, benefiting the environment without harming wildlife or neighboring beaches. It can be used alone or in combination with beach nourishment. Check the function in the silent video below.
π Location: Lazy Point, Long Island, NY
ποΈ Installation: March 2022
π Technology: First full-scale PEM EcoBooster system
The Challenge
For more than a decade, Lazy Point homeowners saw the vegetation line move closer to their homes by an average of 1.3 meters per year. The reason: minimal sand input, as a nearby groin diverted littoral drift far offshore. At this pace, the shoreline was expected to reach the houses within ten years β leaving the community exposed to storms and flooding.
The Solution
EcoShore installed the worldβs first PEM EcoBooster system, using five customized module designs tailored to the siteβs conditions.
The Results (2022β2025)
Key Outcome
PEM EcoBooster enabled vegetation to reclaim the beach. Roots locked sand in place, giving Lazy Point resilience against storms despite minimal new sand inflow.
For decades the vegetation moved inland. This stopped when the PEM EcoBooster was installed. Check how the vegetation moved towards the sea after the PEM EcoBooster was installed in March 2022. Use the dead tilting tree as a fix point

The Challenge:
Decades of erosion at Hillsboro Beach caused by groins at the north end of town. Millions of $ poured into beach nourishments each only lasting a few years.
The Solution:
Installation of PEM in 2008 on the one mile (North) with the worst erosion. Control sites established north and south of project site had no historic erosion.
The Catch:
No cure - No pay. Only if the center of the project site (with PEM) did at least 25% better than the center of two control sites (no PEM) should the town pay the lease.
The Result:
After 18 months the towns consultants documented that the PEMs had outperformed the control site by over 25%. The town paid the lease.
